How To Customize Your Lesson in 4 Easy Steps

ITAC Lesson Templates and Resources by Career Area make customization easy.

To customize an ITAC lesson for your class, you will need to add the following three key elements to the Lesson Template: IT in Action Statements, Scenario, Recommended Resources and Readings.

IT in Action Statements give students a snapshot view into the many and varied ways the IT application is used in specific career field or industry. The statements should represent the diversity of the field and include the appropriate technical specificity. We recommend at least 5 IT in Action Statements be included with each lesson.

The Scenario is the skills building part of the lesson and contains specific information about the work task, including a definition of the work task to be performed, the IT application that will be used, time constraints to complete the task (if appropriate), and the scope of the finished product. Good Scenarios focus on something important, providing the student with a deep learning opportunity and allowing the demonstration of different kinds of skills.

Recommended Resources and Readings are used by the students as background and support for solving the problem stated in the scenario. Resources and Readings can include: 1) “Related Resources” found with each scenario; 2) Recommended Resources and Readings found in the online ITAC library; and/or 3) Required readings for the class and/or books you may have on reserve for your course.

Step 1: Review Scenarios and select one that most closely aligns with your course content.

Step 2: Select the Lesson Template that corresponds to the IT skill needed to solve the problem described in the scenario.

Step 3: A) Insert the scenario problem statement into the corresponding scenario box in the lesson template. B) Insert into the Recommended Resources and Readings box the “Related Resources” that follow the scenario problem statement, relevant items from ITAC’s Recommended Resources and Readings and those resources you identify to support your content learning objectives of the lesson.

Step 4: Review IT in Action Statements and insert examples into the IT in Action box in the Lesson Template.

The Lesson is now customized and ready to use as a class lesson, homework or project.
